2009 MALAWI earthquake( geography graded assignment)

A massive earthquake occurred in northern Malawi,on the 20th of December,2009. The devastating earthquake had a magnitude of the earthquake was 6.0, and it caused at least 3 people to be dead, and about two hundred injured. The earthquake also destroyed buildings, including houses which left many homeless.Fortunately, the government requested for 48000 tents and medical supplies to be brought to northern Malawi to help the victims of the earthquake. The government had also asked the people not to build houses at unstable places, which is near to where the earthquakes are presumed to be. The friction and pressure of the crustal plates sliding past each other is what triggered the tragic event, causing massive disruption and loss of lives. In order to minimize damage during such events, the government should put an earthquake map on the Internet or distribute it to the citizens to guide them on where to build their houses. They should also put up observation posts to inform people when an earthquake is going to occur, so that they can go to a safer area.
